Revolutionizing Adaptive Martial Arts Training & Ranking System

  1. Transforming martial arts training involves a thorough examination of how individuals with disabilities interact with proven traditional techniques. Most martial arts techniques have been studied, practiced, and proven to benefit practitioners in specific martial arts and self-defense scenarios. When altering techniques, adherence to strict principles of application and reliability in self-defense confrontations is crucial.
  2. Only qualified facilitators should attempt to modify standard techniques to accommodate limited range of motion due to disability. This requires understanding the type of disability, its impact on functionality, and the specific appendage used in the technique.
  3. The DMAA offers a program addressing various disabilities, potential complications from over- or under-manipulation of muscles, and the effectiveness of adaptive techniques.

Establishing a New Standard for Instructor Certification

FACILITATOR CERTIFICATION

  • The DMAA acknowledges that many martial arts instructors have extensive teaching experience but may lack expertise in understanding diverse disabilities. To bridge this gap, the DMAA has created a program to educate instructors on various disabilities, range of motion limitations, and adapting techniques without compromising their effectiveness. The Certified Facilitator Program equips adaptive instructors with the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • There are several levels of Facilitator Certification with the DMAA. Each level provides facilitators with a foundational understanding of various types of disabilities. By completing each module within each level, facilitators will be better equipped to offer effective solutions for adapting martial arts techniques.
